Effective communication is essential to a successful campaign. Firstly, it must be achieved within the group, to ensure that all involved are working towards common aims, goals and targets. Agree a strategy, and establish a clear understanding of the context, strengths and constraints that will have an impact on the campaign.


You will also need external communication to a variety of audiences – the local community, the general public, the media, and your targets.

You will need to tailor your messages to each of these groups. Campaigners need to understand who their key audiences are, decide what the key messages are at any given point for a particular group, and design their transmission accordingly. A wide range of methods should be utilised, including electronic, hard copy, social and mass media, as well as face-to-face opportunities.
