SHAC Training – Expressions of Interest
SHAC is inviting engaged and active tenants and residents to express an interest in joining a new, short programme of tenant learning.
This could be people who are involved in their local Tenants and Residents Association, or who regularly attend a tenant panel hosted by their landlord, or some other form of engagement.
Purpose
The purpose of the programme is to pilot an alternative approach to tenant learning and development. We are focusing on strengthening the tenant movement in Britain and altering the balance of power in landlord-tenant relations.
If you are interested in participating in this programme, please do so by completing the expression of interest form below by Friday 20th November 2026.
Background
SHAC believes that current tenant and resident training is too heavily focused on processes and not enough on overcoming the imbalance in power between landlords and tenants.
We are also aware that training programmes do not make sufficient use of the learning already gained by those actively participating in representing other tenants and residents. This means that too much of the real world is lost.
Our Pilot Programme
The pilot programme will be delivered online, via Zoom, and consists of three sessions each lasting ninety minutes. Successful participants will need to attend all three sessions.
The course will be delivered over a six-week period and successful participants will be consulted on dates.
The sessions will be facilitated by SHAC in partnership with John McCormack. John is an internationally-recognised expert in tenant learning.
The precise content of the pilot programme will be based upon analysis of your responses to the questions in the form below. However, the aims of the training are:
- To help facilitate the development of a more politically conscious tenant and resident movement.
- To encourage key activists to become politically conscious leaders within their own communities creating a ripple effect in awareness;
- To strengthen links between those who participate in the training, reducing their isolation.
Spaces on the pilot programme will be limited to 24 participants, and participants will be selected by SHAC to ensure a range of different backgrounds.
All applicants will be emailed by the end of November to let them know whether they have been selected for the first phase of training.
We at SHAC are excited to be launching this initiative, and look forward to receiving your expressions of interest. In the meantime, if you have any queries, please contact us at shac.action@gmail.com.
