SHAC in Inside Housing – Bailiff evictions by social landlords rise 10% in a year, latest statistics show SHAC is quoted in Inside Housing commenting on reports that 38% (8,104) of all landlord possession claims in the prior three months were social landlord claims, compared to 32% (6,862) private landlord claims. This means that -scandalously – the landlords that should be the most compassionate during a cost-of-living crisis are in fact proving to be the most brutal.  End Service Charge Abuse – Reminder: Special One-off MeetingPlus: Meeting Lord Best Challenging Service Charges Meeting Due to popular demand, we have scheduled a special meeting dedicated entirely to service charges. This meeting is separate from the regular monthly SHAC meetings. We will be discussing practical ways residents can challenge and resist unfair service charges, including the option of withholding payment. Please join us and encourage others from your block, neighbourhood, or estate to attend. Meeting Lord Best We contacted a number of Parliamentarians asking to discuss our latest research into the extent of service charge abuse. We supplied new evidence on the number of First Tier (Property Chamber) Tribunal cases in which judges supported tenant and resident claims of overcharging, at a rate exceeding 63%. (Read the report here). Lord Best, who represents the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People, responded positively to our request and will set a date in April. |
